Just when you thought bacon couldn't get any better! I first tried this dish at a very schmarmy party many years ago. It is difficult to believe that I've only just recently thought to duplicate in my own kitchen. It happens accidentally on breakfast plates around the county on a daily basis - bacon mingling with yummy syrup - so why not make this tasty accident on purpose? And it couldn't be simpler to prepare!
Ingredients:
-12-16 oz thick sliced bacon
-1/2 cup REAL maple syrup
-fresh ground pepper
Place a baking rack inside an oven sheet that has raised sides. Line up the bacon on the rack, pepper the bacon, and bake for about 15 minutes at 400 degrees. Take the bacon out of the oven and brush liberally with the syrup on each side. Bacon will be hot so take care when flipping it over. Return to oven and bake for another 12-15 minutes, or until sufficiently crispy for your tastes. Cool a bit before removing bacon from rack, place on plate and serve.
This delicious recipe is sure to be a hit with your husband, children, friends, neighbors - almost everyone that isn't a vegetarian :) But I'd love to hear anyone's results using veggie-bacon!
Enjoy!
